We were asked to turn a small, narrow guest room (2.2 x 1.9 m) into a home study that would accommodate a sizeable library. The challenge was for the study to be convertible into a guest room when required.
It seemed that having bookshelves and a desk with a chair would leave no space for a bed.
Our solution was to divide the bed into two parts in our floor plan, creating an armchair and a footstool, with a gap in the middle into which the desk chair could fit. Lowering the back of the armchair onto the footstool results in a full-size bed. Installing a barn door proved ideal as a space-saving measure, while allowing for a view of the garden all the way from the adjacent kitchen.
